Starting with a shared interest in old buildings, especially ruined abbeys, we experimented with working remotely, yet maintaining close communication at all stages, to create this diptych. Hand dyed and commercial batiks were combined with fabric printing, manipulation techniques and machine quilting to re-create the texture of old buildings. Two separate quilts tops were pieced, sliced and then rejoined - the design for one top being derived from architectural forms (mid tones, made by Meg), the other smaller scale decorative details (black/white, made by Lesley).
